Blackbelt Overview


The Blackbelt program offers outstanding experience to advance your knowledge, skills, and capability to the next level of lean

Building upon Greenbelt knowledge, participants are challenged to become Lean experts.  The Blackbelt program focuses on Lean Strategy and the Strategic Deployment of Lean methodology. Structured around the Lean Excellence (LE) model, the program covers Lean Strategy, Excellence in Product, Process, People and Customer as well as suppliers and external partners. This is an advanced level course that includes our well-renown Japan Lean Tour.  This eye-opening and insightful trip serves to be an invaluable experience for participants who are serious about encouraging and promoting a continuous improvement culture within their organizations.

Developed for

Lean Specialists, Continuous Improvement leaders, general leaders

Once completed, Blackbelt participants are able to undertake annual diagnostic assessments of their organizations and conduct advanced Kaizen projects.  As specialists in Lean within their organizations, Blackbelts will be able to deliver advanced training and more complex kaizen activities within their organizations. Specifically, Blackbelts are expected to take on cross-departmental and cross-corporate challenges that require a big-picture view of lean methodologies.


Lean Sensei Greenbelt.

Those with “equivalent or similar” qualification may be allowed to take Blackbelt directly. Please contact our office if you believe you may qualify.

The Blackbelt Certification program lasts three months and consists of four, five-day modules.

Module 1 – Lean Strategy and Lean Assessment

  • Assigned Reading and Class Projects

Module 2 – Lean Supply Chain

  • Lean Procurement
  • Process Simplification
  • Lean Inventory Management
  • Heijunka (Load Balancing)
  • Supply Chain reduction Kaizen
  • Blackbelt Assignment (supply chain kaizen)
  • Assigned Reading and Class Projects

Module 3 – Japan Lean Tour

  • Benchmarking Tour to visit top companies in Japan, such as Toyota, suppliers, and many others
  • Japan Culture learning
  • Insight Summary Assignment

Module 4 – Extreme Kaizen

  • Lean Problem Solving Kaizen methodology
  • Final Blackbelt Presentation
  • Final Exam
  • Graduation
